Man killed by semi-truck while walking on sidewalk in Phoenix

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Police say a man was hit and killed by a semi-truck with a flatbed trailer on Thursday afternoon.

At 1:45 p.m., a semi-truck was traveling east on Van Buren Street. At 35th Avenue, the truck was making a right turn when the rear wheels of the trailer went up on the sidewalk and hit the man walking on the sidewalk.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old man, stayed at the scene and was evaluated for impairment. Police say he did not seem impaired.

Charges are pending at this time. The investigation is on-going.
