PHOENIX (FOX 10) - Firefighters say a 54-year-old man is expected to survive, after being struck by the light rail in Downtown Phoenix late Wednesday morning.
According to a statement released by Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson Wednesday afternoon, the accident happened at around 11:32 a.m., when a southbound light rail train was pulling into the 1st Avenue and Van Buren station and hit the man, who fell onto the tracks in front of the train.
Firefighters say the was trapped under the light rail before being pulled out, and Phoenix Police officials say the man appears to have tripped, and fell in front of the train. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Phoenix Police.
