PHOENIX - We may have seen the last of Kari Lake in Arizona politics.
The former FOX 10 Phoenix Anchor made the announcement on X, saying that she doesn't want to put herself and her family "through the torture of running again."
Lake was asked at America Fest earlier this month if she would run again for Governor when the position is up for election in 2026. Lake focused her answer on helping President-elect Donald Trump instead.
Current Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) beat Lake in the 2022 election by a fraction of 1 percentage point, 50.3% to 49.6%.
Lake has never conceded the defeat, even after certification and litigation that was brought all the way to the US Supreme Court.
In Nov. 2024, Lake settled a defamation lawsuit with Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer over statements claiming the 2022 election in Arizona was rigged.
The details of that settlement have not been released to the public.

In 2024, Lake was defeated in a bid for U.S. Senate by Ruben Gallego (D) by a 2.5% margin.
She has since been chosen by Trump to serve as the next director of Voice of America.

The next gubernatorial election in Arizona is scheduled for 2026.
Lake's opponent in the 2022 Republican primary, Karrin Taylor Robson, was endorsed by Trump at the America Fest event, which took place at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Taylor Robson lost that primary to Lake by a margin of 47.9% to 43.1%.
