Puppies and kittens can make for exciting presents during the holidays, but before you gift a loved one with an animal, ask yourself, "Is this an impulse item?"

Last minute purchases for stocking stuffers are one thing, but pets are more than gifts. They are living beings -- and a huge commitment.

Pet adoption can be a wonderful gift for a loved one AND to a shelter animal in need of a forever home, but remember: the puppy or kitten you adopt in 2017 will still likely be your responsibility in 2027.
