PHOENIX - Homes were evacuated in a south Phoenix neighborhood after a reported natural gas leak on the afternoon of Oct. 5, the fire department said.
Capt. Evan Gammage with Phoenix Fire said, "Phoenix hazardous materials teams are on scene of a reported 2 inch natural gas leak involving fire in the alley" near 27th Avenue and Elliot Road.
Homes in the area were evacuated and crews set a perimeter to protect surrounding homes.
Hazmat teams worked with Southwest Gas to secure the gas line.
No injuries were reported.
"Southwest Gas responded to the incident reportedly involving third-party damage to a natural gas line," said Amy Washburn, a spokeswoman with Southwest Gas. "As safety is our top priority, crews shut off gas in the area and coordinated with first responders to make the area safe. As of last night all natural gas service was restored to customers impacted by the incident."
