GLENDALE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - It's better to be safe than sorry.
Today, students at Mountain Ridge High School aspiring to work in the medical field got an inside look at how to prepare for an emergency with a mock disaster drill.
"Unfortunatley, any of us can be involved in a car accident, have an accident at home," Kim Rodgers said. "The importance of staying calm and general knowledge of knowing how to treat things and know the process of what to go through, it gives them those skills."
The mock drill began with medical professionals treating victims of a car crash, then a demonstration with an air evacuation in case of a plane crash.
The Glendale Fire Department says they teamp up with the school every year because it gives students a real idea of what it's like to be a medical professional.
"We try to educate the kids about the dangers of some decision making and bad decisions in particular, so anytime we can get in the community to give that education, we're all willing to do so," Capt. Kevin Thompson said.
For the stuents, the learning experience is unlike anything they could get from a textbook in the classroom.
"It's so cool because it gives you the most realest experience you can have before college," Nicole Lukasiewicz said. "You're not sitting in class listening to a lecture, you're actually physically out here participating in an active event."
