Former Secret Service agent weighs in on California shooting
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Tim Franklin is a criminology professor at Arizona State University.
He was also a secret service agent who carried our protective advances for Presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush.
He's been watching the developments in San Bernardino unfold, and says it looks like a terrorist vs. a disgruntled employee.
Franklin points out that the suspected gunmen were using semi-automatic rifles, handguns, pipe bombs, and tactical gear, he says that points to a high level of organization and planning.
Franklin believes this could be the work of homegrown terrorists or sleeper cells with a goal not to kill a vast amount of people, but to attack the American psyche by targeting middle America.
He says this type of attack involving single unit cells acting on their own could be the "new normal" terrorist attack in the United States and abroad.
