FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Flagstaff Police are asking people to be on alert after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man pretending to be a police officer.
The assault happened over the weekend, just north of the Northern Arizona University campus near the 200 block of E. Birch Avenue.
Police say the suspect approached the woman on foot while she was seated in her car. He presented himself as a police officer and under that ruse, he led the woman to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5' 10" to 5' 11" tall with a muscular build, possibly wearing blue jeans, glasses and a baseball cap with the word "POLICE" on it. Police say a witness also described the man as having a black strap or stripe across his shirt. He was also reported to be carrying a large flashlight.
"It is important to remember that Flagstaff Police Officers always carry a department issued police badge and identification card on their person when on duty. These will be presented upon request by citizens," stated Sgt. Cory Runge.
The man still hasn't been caught. If you have any information about this case, contact the Flagstaff Police at (928) 774-1414 or Silent Witness at (928) 774-6111.
