Fire burns Waste Management plant in Phoenix

PHOENIX - Crews battled a first-alarm recycling fire at the Waste Management plant near 19th Avenue and Deer Valley Road on Friday. The plant stores and recycles paper and cardboard products.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, firefighters used hand lines and elevated ladder trucks with large water nozzles to contain the blaze. They were also working with Waste Management representatives to use mechanical force (front loader trucks) to break apart the cardboard to get a better reach to the fire.
