EXCLUSIVE: FOX 10's Kari Lake tours the White House South Grounds, speaks to retiring curator

WASHINGTON (KSAZ) - The South grounds of the White House is an area primarily enjoyed by the First Family, and a place where the helicopter known as Marine One lands, taking the President back to his home.

On Tuesday, FOX 10 Phoenix's Kari Lake got a chance to take a look at the area.

It's the home of many trees, with almost every President having planted a tree.

It's also the home of a vegetable garden that former First Lady Michelle Obama planted. Earlier in the year, there were rumors the Trumps will tear up the garden.

The garden is still there, with its crop of onions and cabbages, along with other vegetables.

"I think [the First Family] are going to enjoy this too, as much as everybody," said the person who led Kari on the tour.

In addition to the tour of the South Grounds, Kari Lake also spoke to the White House Curator, who is retiring after 40 years of making sure the inside of the White House is as beautiful as the outside.

Curator Bill Allman has met more dignitaries, celebrities and presidents than probably anyone in the world.

"I started at the end of the Gerald Ford administration, worked for... and now Donald Trump," he said.

He's the guy that makes sure things go smoothly on the move-in day, or as the rest of us know it; Inauguration Day.

"It's getting one family moved out and another family moved in," Allman said. "It's a very busy day. Inauguration Day is a very busy day. We have a five-hour window when one moves out and the movers pull up and move in another family."

This is the only job of its kind, with so many one-of-a-kind memories.

"It's one of those bittersweet moments when you come and walk in the gates and people ask, 'Doesn't that ever get stale?'" Allman said. "It's a great honor to be here, working for the people we get to work for."
