Education supporters rally at the State Capitol

Arizona Educators United and a group called "Save Our Schools" held events in Phoenix and several other Arizona cities Wednesday to protest low teacher pay, and asking for more education resources.

On Wednesday afternoon, supporters gathered at the Arizona State Capitol in Downtown Phoenix. The teachers are demanding a 20% salary increase, in addition to competitive pay for education support professionals, and a permanent salary structure with annual raises.

"The numbers vary, but at the end of the day, it's all bad," said a person who attended the rally. "We have the lowest paid teachers. We have the worst student-to-counselor ratio in the entire country."

The Governor's Office said it hopes to pass a budget in the coming weeks that adds to its investment in public education.
