Deadly fire in Trump Tower in Manhattan

A 67-year-old man died and 4 FDNY firefighters were injured in a fire on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday evening. The injuries to the firefighters was described as "non-life-threatening" by Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro.

The person who died lived in the apartment that caught fire. EMS transported the man to Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital but it was too late to save his life. The Medical Examiner's office will determine the cause of death. The man was not identified.

The fire did not affect the Trump family residence and no members of the president's family were in the building at the time of the fire.

Video posted on social media showed flames pouring out of some windows of the building. An alert sent out by the city said the fire was 4 alarms.

The call came in at about 5:35 p.m. The FDNY says the upper floors, which are all residences, do not have sprinklers.

An alert from the city warned to expect smoke, traffic delays, mass transit disruptions, and a presence of emergency personnel and vehicles in the area..

President Trump later tweeted that the fire was out and said that firefighters had done a good job.

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene advised avoiding smoke exposure by closing windows while indoors and reducing outdoor activity where smoke is present.

People with heart or breathing conditions such as asthma may be more sensitive and were told to seek immediate medical attention if they experience a worsening of their condition, shortness of breath, or chest pains.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.

In late January, a fire in the heating and air conditioning system on top of the building injured three people. President Trump was at the White House during that fire.
