RV fire sets off ammunition, sparks Ironwood Fire

The Ironwood Fire is burning near Cordes Lakes. It was set off by a crash involving an RV that set off rounds of ammunition.

Interstate 17 northbound was closed for a vehicle fire that set off rounds of ammunition near Cordes Lakes, about 35 miles north of Loop 303.

Officials are calling the ensuing brush fire the Ironwood Fire.

They added that one hand crew and two fire engines were assigned to the fire. It burned an estimated 229 total acres and containment is estimated at 50%.

The fire produced an ensuing brush fire, clouds of smoke and heavily reduced visibility in the area.

SET status evacuation orders on Friday were lifted and changed to READY status on Saturday morning.

The crash happened near milepost 261.

All lanes were reopened by the following morning.
