PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Arizona's Special Election is about 4-weeks away, and early ballots have been mailed out. There are 1.3 million early voters and their ballots all have an error in the Spanish section.
On the Maricopa County Ballot mailed to permanent early voters the wrong proposition title is on Prop 124, it's the text from Prop 123.
"Our first reaction is we have to get the correct message out there to as many people as quick as we can, to make sure years of hard work aren't done for naught," said Stephen Gilman.
The Prop 124 campaign has been working for six years to make changes to the Firefighters Public Retirement System. Now their attorneys are contacting Helen Purcell, the person in charge of printing the ballots.
"We've been in contact with our attorneys to figure out what our options may be, we are just going to focus on tasks throughout the election and if there are any legal ramifications to it," said Gilman.
In 2012, the office gave Spanish-speaking voters bookmarks printed with the wrong election date, and currently, the Department of Justice is investigating the officer for the long lines that plagued county voters in Marcy.
Purcell's office was not available but did release a statement. "We plan on sending out a mailer to every voter who already received an early ballot notifying them of the error in the Spanish header only and what the correction will look like."
