Community rallies behind bakery targeted by vandals

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - The community is rallying behind a valley bakery which was hit by vandals over the weekend.

The store's front window was smashed and this isn't the first time the store has been targeted.

The owner of the Middle Eastern Bakery and Deli, Isam Saed, is overwhelmed by the community's support. Recently, his business near 16th Street and Thomas Road has been hit by vandals who've smashed the window twice.

"I'm feeling that really love takes over hate okay.. that's the theme.. with people's love, you can make everything possible," he said.

On Monday, he learned M & M Glass has donated their time and glass to replace the window.

"I own my business and this is one of those things that I just believe the situation overrides the glass or the cost or anything else," said M & M Glass owner Rick Pyle.

Saed also learned after just one day, about $10,000 has been raised for him through a Go Fund Me account. Jody Clute helped organize the donations.

"The whole community did it on little small donations $5, $10, $20 bucks, so there was almost 300 donations and it's pretty heartwarming to see that," she said.

Clute says the initial goal was to raise about $1,500 to replace the window. She's not surprised by how many people stood behind Saed, eager to help him.

"It was important because Isam is the kindest, most generous man you will ever meet that's a restaurant owner. He just makes you feel like you're his very best friend and his family, so when we heard that his restaurant was damaged, we just couldn't let it stay that way."
