Cockroaches may fly in NYC due to heat

According to local reports, its so hot in New York City, cockroaches may start to fly.

DNAinfo reports the hot and humid weather in Manhattan is actually ideal weather for encouraging American cockroaches to fly.

The website cites an expert from the American Museum of Natural History that says "with more heat they have more use of their muscles."

All American cockroaches have wings and the ability to take to the air, but it is an uncommon sight in New York City and other metro areas due to all the trash cans and other low to the ground food options for cockroaches.

The insects are more likely to be spotted flying in places like Florida or Texas where they use their wings to find food.
