Chandler teen arrested for 'recklessly' shooting friend in the chest
CHANDLER, Ariz. - A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenager was shot in Chandler, police said.
The incident happened at a home near McQueen Road and Hunt Highway on Nov. 3.
Two teenagers were alone at the house, and police say one of them was holding the gun when it fired.
"The [911] caller, a 16-year-old male, reported another male teenager sustained a gunshot wound after the two of them were playing with a gun," police said in a statement.
The victim was shot in the chest area, but was alert and talking when paramedics took him to the hospital. He was seriously hurt but is expected to survive.
Police said the teen was "recklessly" handling the weapon when the shooting happened, but it is still unclear what led up to the incident.
Chandler officers arrested the accused shooter and booked him into the county's juvenile detention facility on Nov. 11.
The teen faces numerous charges including aggravated assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, obstructing criminal investigations, endangerment and false reporting to law enforcement.
