CHANDLER, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Schools across the nation demonstrated a National Student Walk Out today, including schools here in the Valley.
"When we should be concerned about math tests and prom dresses, not bulletproof backpacks," one student said.
The "Save Our Students" movement unified students at Hamilton High School, who took a stand against gun violence in schools.
"We are fed up with how much gun violence is prominent in schools across the nation and we are tired of feeling scared in schools," Toni St. John said.
Nearly 4,000 students at Hamilton High School made the choice to walk out of school in an attempt to grab legislators' attention about cracking down on gun laws to make schools safer, and the sooner, the better.
"These are the issues that we're facing," one student said. "We are scared for our lives in places where we shouldn't be scared and we're depending on you to make a change so that fear can go away."
These students hope that together, they can spark a change they feel will keep history from repeating itself.
"We want to be worried about homework rather than who's going to be the next person to step into that school and cost us our future," one student said.
