Chandler Police: Dispute at hotel led to arrest in major fraud case

CHANDLER, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Chandler Police officials say what started out as a dispute between a hotel and one of its guests led to an arrest in a major fraud case involving people's identities.

According to a statement released by Detective Seth Tyler Wednesday, police were called to the San Marcos Hotel on January 30, after hotel management say a man was past his checkout time, and refused to leave the hotel. When officers arrived, they made contact with a man who initially identified himself as 24-year-old Daniel Santiago Rendon. During the investigation, officers looked at a black Chevrolet car with California license plate, where they found printing devices, laptop computers, a ledger containing other people's identities, in addition to blank hotel card stock used for re-encoding credit cards, and 19 different identifications with various names and forms, to include credit cards and state issued IDs.

The suspect, according to Chandler Police, was later placed under arrest for possession of forged instruments, and police were later able to determine that the suspect's real name is Austin Holmberg. Holmberg has since been booked into Maricopa County Jail on various other charges, including unlawful possession of a scanning device, and forgery.
