Smash-and-grab at Phoenix business caught on camera

Police are investigating a burglary incident in Phoenix where thieves stole dozens of eyeglass frames that the store's owner says are of a higher value, and the incident was captured on video. FOX 10's Nicole Garcia reports.

Police are investigating a smash-and-grab burglary that happened at a Phoenix eyeglass store.

"They probably took 40 to 60 frames of the higher value," said the owner of Eclipse Eyewear Vision Center, David Stewart. "Tiffany, Gucci, Versace."

Stewart sent FOX 10 video showing two suspects breaking into the store at around 1:30 a.m. on April 20 near 32nd Street and Shea Boulevard.

In the video, the suspects can be seen smashing a glass case and loading several thousand dollars worth of designer eyeglass frames and sunglasses into a laundry basket.

"So I counted. They were in here for 35 seconds. They knew what they wanted, they knew where it was located, straight to our display case, broke the glass it took them 25–30 seconds," said Stewart.

Each frame retails for around $300-400, and according to Stewart, the suspects fled the scene in a black, four-door compact Chevrolet sedan.

Stewart says he has filed a report with Phoenix Police and estimates the total loss and damages to be more than $10,000.

"We're just a small business. We're trying to make it. We provide a good service to our customers, and it's just disheartening that these kinds of things happen," said Stewart. "It just really kind of hits you hard, but we're happy that we're relatively in good shape, and we hope that these people are caught."
