Car crashes into power pole, fence in Laveen neighborhood

LAVEEN, Ariz. (KSAZ) - It was around 3:30 on Wednesday morning when a woman and her niece were heading along 43rd Avenue when the woman says her foot got stuck under the pedal, causing her to blow through the intersection.

"It must have been on the gas pedal for a long time because she wiped out everything here," Johnny Torres said. "She snapped the telephone in half."

Johnny Torres was asleep when he and his dad heard a loud bang.

"I thought the airplane hit the top of the roof where my dad was at," he said. "I was yelling out there if he was alright and he said, 'yea,' and then I ran out here and that's when I seen them."

Torres says the woman was trying to drive off but couldn't get very far.

"She still kept going and we kept telling them, 'don't leave, don't leave,' but she couldn't move nowhere because that fence was stuck on the axle," he said.

Torres called police and Salt River Project was out to fix the power pole, but his main concern was the demolished fence that kept his animals safe from coyotes.

"We have a lot of animals, peacocks and stuff and awhile back, the coyotes run out here, earlier in the mornings, and they killed a lot of animals, so we have to get a fence up," he said.

He's thankful no one was hurt and claims it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

"This road, right here, they are always racing up and down the road all the time," he said.

He hopes people will learn from this and take it slow.

So far, it is unknown if the driver will face any charges.
