Businesses face difficulties finding workers as holiday season approaches

Soon, shopping centers and stores will be filled wit holiday shoppers, but some stores will not be filled with as many employees as needed to keep up with the rush. FOX 10's Danielle Miller reports.

Shopping centers and stores will soon be filled with holiday shoppers, but unfortunately, those stores won't be filled with as many employees as needed to keep up with the rush.

According to Kathryn Cummiskey, who manages a store called Lather, there are plenty of products to go around, but not enough help to keep up with the holiday crunch.

"That is our busiest season, and it's crazy in here. We usually extend our hours, and we're busy from open to close," said Cummiskey.

Lather, like many stores, are short-handed these days, especially at a time when employees are needed most.

"This store used to have a team of five people, and now, it's just two of us, so you can imagine it's kind of the same story with the other stores," said Cummiskey.

For those who are buying gifts online, more drivers are needed to bring them to the buyers. UPS is looking to hire hundreds of people.

"We're looking to hire about 800 employees for this holiday seasonal period here in the Valley. Tempe, Goodyear, Mesa, Phoenix, and Tucson," said UPS Package Division Manager Robert Humphrey.

Meanwhile, many businesses, including Latherm will have to reduce store hours rather than extend them this holiday season.
