Burglary suspect shoots self after police confrontation
Phoenix police say a burglary suspect took his own life during a confrontation with officers.
Investigators say the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday outside a vehicle body shop near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road.
The proprietor reported seeing an unknown person on the property.
Officers searched the location and found the suspect hiding under a truck in the yard.
They say he refused commands to surrender. He then fought with a police K-9.
Police say as officers moved in to arrest him, he pulled out a handgun and shot himself.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
One officer was injured from shrapnel from the bullet that hit the suspect. His injury is not life-threatening. The suspect's identity was not released.
