Border Patrol agents find 1,700 pounds of pot in pickup truck

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - The Border Patrol says agents seized 1,700 pounds of marijuana after spotting a pickup truck that had been driven across the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to Border Patrol spokesman Richard Withers, the truck was driven across the border along the Colorado River near Yuma Thursday afternoon.

Withers says a torch was used to cut through the border fence and then a vehicle barrier was moved to allow passage.

Withers said agents patrolling the area spotted the truck and tried to stop it but the driver and two other occupants jumped from the moving vehicle and escaped across the border into Mexico

A search of the truck turned up bundles of marijuana.
