PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Arizona is home to one of the most scenic interstate highways in the nation, and just off Interstate 17 is the Rock Springs Cafe, which is one of the most historic restaurants that you can visit.
"It was Ben Warner who opened it, started out as a general store, and then he turned it into a restaurant," Angel Brunk said.
Brunk is the head chef at Rock Springs Cafe.
"It's amazing, it's been open this long," he said.
Rock Springs Cafe gets its name from a nearby natural spring emerging from the rocks. It was used as a water source 100 years ago when Ben Warner arrived in the area in 1918.
Rock Springs Cafe is famous for its pies.
The sweet treats and other menu items, like BBQ and burgers, draw customers from the near and far, like Linda Dashnaw from Boston.
"We came here seven years ago," she said. "We randomly stopped here this time, we made a return trip on purpose, we said it's right between Phoenix where we land and Sedona where we went."
Brunk says there's not one ingredient that's allowed Rock Springs Cafe to keep its doors open an entire century.
"It's amazing for me to be a part of something that is so famous," he said.
The 100th anniversary party takes place Saturday, from noon until 10 p.m.
