ANTHEM, Ariz. - A shooting in Anthem that left a man dead and a woman injured is being investigated as an attempted murder-suicide, Phoenix police said Wednesday.
The incident happened at a building just off of Interstate 17 and Anthem Way.
Police say they discovered a woman who had been shot and a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The unidentified man died from his injuries, and the woman was hospitalized in life-threatening condition.
"Witness in the area had informed officers that the male suspect shot the female victim while she was in a car then walked away a short distance before shooting himself," Sgt. Brian Bower said.
Some nearby schools and businesses were put on lockdown during the investigation, but they have since reopened.
Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting and the relationship between the man and the woman.
