American Airlines adding London flight from Phoenix

PHOENIX (KSAZ/AP) - American Airlines is expanding its European network and offering a nonstop flight from Phoenix to London. In a news release, American Airlines announced it will be adding a nonstop flight from Sky Harbor International Airport to London Heathrow Airport beginning in 2019.

The new seasonal flight will be available from March 31 to October 26 and customers will be able to begin booking the flight on Monday, August 27.

American Airlines says the new nonstop PHX to LHR flight to will be operated on a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

"Today's announcement is a reflection of the strength of the Phoenix economy, and one that only promises to make it stronger," said Phoenix Mayor Thelda Williams. "This has been many years in the making, and I want to thank the Oneworld alliance, American Airlines and the City of Phoenix team for working together to turn it into a reality."

American joins British Airways as the only airlines offering nonstop service between Phoenix and London. The two will continue their joint partnership, meaning travelers booking a Phoenix-London nonstop can do so with either airline regardless of which is operating the flight.
