Six firefighters were injured while responding to a first-alarm fire and hazmat situation in Phoenix.

The Phoenix Fire Department says the fire broke out at a pool supply business in east Phoenix near 32nd Street and McDowell at about 3 a.m.

Five firefighters were taken to a nearby hospital with respiratory issues and another with a knee injury. All of the firefighters are in stable condition.

Firefighters say the fire is under control, but the hazmat situation is ongoing. Investigators are working with the pool store's owner to determine the cause of the incident.

The area has been deemed safe to nearby residents.

Phoenix police say east McDowell Road is closed in both directions from 32nd to 36th Streets. There is no ETA as to when the road will reopen.
