2 teenage girls burned at Lake Pleasant

Two girls were rushed to the hospital after the boat they were riding in caught fire on Sunday at Lake Pleasant.

Peoria Fire crews say the family was loading their boat into the lake when a flash fire erupted from the engine compartment at about 9 a.m. Sunday.

Crews say two girls, both 13 years old, were sitting near the back of the boat and suffered burns.

One girl suffered first-and-second-degree burns over 50 percent of her body; she was flown to a nearby burn center in stable condition.

They say the second girl suffered first-degree burns over 12 percent of her body and was taken by ground to a nearby hospital.

A man also suffered minor burns.

MCSO deputies also responded and say the girls are expected to survive their injuries.

Detectives are now investigating what led up to the flash fire.
