CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Chandler Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened early Wednesday morning.
Police say they received 911 calls just past 1 a.m. on May 31 from an allegedly intoxicated man who was uncooperative and refused to give his address in the area of McClintock Drive and Ray Road.
"Officers responded and after conducting a diligent search, were unable to locate anyone in need of emergency assistance," the department said.
Soon after, police learned that a woman at a nearby home may be in danger. The man who made the original 911 call was then identified by family members, who also called police.
Officers surrounded the home just after 2 a.m. and a man came outside armed with a gun.
"Within a few minutes, he fatally shot himself while still outside and in view of the officers," police said.

2 dead in Chandler home
FOX 10's Danielle Miller reports.
The man was identified as 38-year-old Kevin Holmberg.
Officers then entered the home and found Kevin's wife, 41-year-old Katherine Holmberg, dead from a gunshot wound. Investigators believe Kevin shot and killed his wife, who was pregnant at the time of the shooting.
No further details were released.
