Victim's family not giving up on search for suspect in deadly hit and run accident

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A Valley woman says her family is not giving up, as they continue to search for the driver who hit and killed Renee Wadsworth in May.

Wadsworth, 59, was out taking a walk in the West Valley when a driver hit her, but didn't stop. Wadsworth had three sons, as well as four brothers and sisters who are now all working to find out what happened.

"We have no idea how long she was laying in the road," said Wadsworth's sister, Michelle Helmer. "If the person that hit her and left would have just dialed 911 and said I wont be on the scene and they could have come sooner. If they had come sooner, she might alive still."

Helmer say it is the "what if's" that continue to haunt and hurt her family, as they do what they can to find the driver who hit Wadsworth, as she walked to her parents house.

The driver kept going.

"It's bad enough to be hit, but they left parts behind so they hit her pretty hard," said Helmer. "They had the parts and took them in, and they said its either F-150 pick up or an Expedition."

MCSO has put out a bulletin about the crime, which took place on May 16 around 7:30 p.m.. It's been more than 2 months since Wadsworth was hit near 127th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

"After time passes, people sometimes think they get away with things, and then they let their guard down thinking they're OK, I don't have to worry about this any more," said Helmer.

Helmer says the family has been raising money, so they can offer a reward to anyone who comes forward with information.

"Who ever did this needs to just come forward and turn themselves in, and whoever has information they should call it in and they'll remain anonymous," said Helmer. "There's nothing to be afraid of. You'll be helping somebody."
