Police: Armed robbery suspect dead after mother shoots suspect
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a suspect is dead after he was shot by a woman during an attempted armed robbery in north Phoenix.
Phoenix police say the shooting happened late Tuesday night when the 34-year-old suspect grabbed a woman as she entered her home near the Loop 101 and Seventh Street.
When the woman tried to close the door to her home, the suspect forced his way in and the woman grabbed a handgun and shot the suspect, according to police.
The suspect then fled the scene and was found at a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The woman was not injured during the attempted armed robbery, but according to friends, she is pretty shaken up about the incident. The family of four reportedly did not stay at their home on Wednesday.
"I just feel really bad for her," said Debbie Lopez, a neighbor. "I hope she can get through it, especially around the holidays."
The investigation is ongoing by police.
