Police find truck that matches description of one involved in shooting death of 10-year-old
PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- There is a heavy police presence in a Maryvale neighborhood late Thursday night, as police were called out to check out a truck that matches the description to the one involved in an apparent road rage incident that ended with the shooting death of a 10-year-old girl Wednesday.
According to a statement released by Sgt. Vince Lewis Wednesday, a family of four was driving near 37th Avenue and Portland Street when they noticed a white Ford F-150 with dark-colored trim was following them.
"They were traveling westbound on Moreland and turned into their residence and that's when the driver or someone from the pickup truck opened fire to the car," said Sgt. Lewis.
According to police officials on Thursday, the 10-year-old, identified as Summer Bell Brown, was seating in the back, behind her father, and both were shot. Brown did not survive her injuries, and her father, identified as a 37-year-old, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Brown's mother, who was inside the car, and another girl that was seating in the rear were both not hurt.
The scene is unfolding in the area of 61st Avenue and Indian School Road, and a police department mobile command unit is at the scene.
Police have not confirmed if the white truck is related to the deadly shooting and have towed it away, however, the scene remains active as of Friday morning.
