Hacienda: Doctors who cared for sexual assault victim resigned, suspended

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Officials with Hacienda HealthCare announced on Monday the two physicians who were responsible for the care of a sexual assault victim are no longer providing medical services to its patients.

According to the statement, which was released Monday afternoon, Hacienda officials say one of the doctors has resigned, and the other doctor has been suspended. Officials did not reveal the doctors' identities.

"Once again, we offer an apology and send our deepest sympathy to the client and her family," read a portion of the statement. "Hacienda intends to do everything possible to restore its credibility in the eyes of our patients, families, the community and our agency partners at every level."

The facility has been the focus on international media attention recently, since a child was born to a woman in vegetative state at the facility late December. The woman has been identified as a 29-year-old enrolled member of the San Carlos Apache tribe. Phoenix Police officials say a long-term investigation into what happened is ongoing.
