15-year-old in custody after teen shot and killed in El Mirage

Police say a teenage suspect is in custody after a 17-year-old boy was killed and another person was injured after a car was fired upon in a shooting in El Mirage.

Police say they arrested a 15-year-old boy for the deadly shooting of 17-year-old Raymond Vargas. According to Sgt. Chris Culp with the City of El Mirage Police Department, officers responded to the home near El Mirage and Thunderbird Roads on April 26 at 10:46 p.m. for reports of shots fired and a vehicle accident.

Police say someone shot at a car that held five people, ages 16 to 19. The 17-year-old driver was shot in the chest and a passenger was hit on the leg.

Police say the car then crashed into a garage and hit another vehicle. Officers found the teen driver on the ground next to wrecked car.

Police say multiple suspects ran from the scene following the shooting and were not immediately apprehended.
